Every family needs an adventure buddy.
While enjoying some down time/vacation this winter, something exciting and unexpected happened. Our family grew by four paws, two floopsidoodles (aka ears), and one gigantic personality.
Fiona, our squirrely Australian Shepherd, came home with us just before Zach’s birthday (known to everyone else as Valentine’s day). She stole our hearts from the moment we saw her and, eventually, she’d steal our socks, too.
The first week was surreal and filled with joy, and then we had a serious wake-up call. We discovered Fiona was having seizures. We didn’t know what was causing them, and we didn’t know how to stop them from happening. The vets didn’t have an answer for us either. Everyone was stumped and things looked tough for our sweet little girl. Our hearts and spirits were broken, but we knew we had to stay strong to help Fiona pull through.
After trying a few different things, we decided the best path forward was to start medicating for epilepsy to try to get control of the episodes she was having. She hasn’t been on this medication for long, but we’ve noticed some improvements which make us very hopeful that things are finally starting to look up. Fiona is on the upswing (fingers crossed), and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve been so grateful for the support and love from everyone.
So, back to the good stuff!
Our little peanut loves people and other dogs, walking, chewing, nibbling fingers and toes, more chewing, and she has learned 4 or 5 tricks! She’s grown so much over the last month-and-a-half. Her personality is huge and, despite being puppy-sized, she knows how to make her presence known. She fits right in.
Our little adventure buddy has had a rocky start, but things are looking up and we’re grateful.
